VST Plugins

About:

This page contains some of my favorite VST/VSTi plugins–products that I use on a regular basis. I’ll update this page from time to time with more goodies, so keep checking back!

Freeware Plugins:

All items hosted on my site are either abandonware (the author’s site is down) or have been posted here with the author’s permission. I’ve linked to some other favorites which still have a home on the web, too.

Dasample Glaceverb – Excellent freeware reverb. ‘Nuff said.

dBlue Crusher – bitcrusher VST

dBlue Glitch – multi-FX plugin, awesome for adding some spice to anything.

Digitalfishphones The Fish Fillets series – Contains Blockfish (excellent compressor), Spitfish (de-esser), and Floorfish (noise gate). I use these plugins all the time.

Guitarbro Logana – Virtual analog synth VSTi with a great tone.

Ichiro Toda Synth1 – One of the all-time greatest free VSTi plugins. Light on CPU, easy to use, and sounds great–what else do you need? The page is in Japanese, but you should be able to spot the download link right away.

Kjaerhus Classic Series – Master Limiter, Delay, Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Compressor, Reverb, EQ

Smartelectronix Ambience – Brilliant reverb plugin. Has a slightly steep learning curve, but sounds gorgeous when done right. Lots of other goodies on the page, too!

Tone2 BiFilter – Excellent filter plugin with some incredibly good selections to choose from. Includes formant and comb filter options! I use this in most of my tracks.

Payware Plugins:

4Front TruePianos – Inexpensive and lightweight, but every piano is entirely usable and sounds great in a mix.

Cakewalk z3ta+ – I use the old, 1.4 version, but there’s a brand-new 2.0 version…and either one will give you incredible flexibility from a virtual analog synth lauded by most professional electronica-heads.

Garritan Personal Orchestra – It’s not going to fool anyone into thinking you’ve got the Los Angeles Symphony at your disposal, but it’ll give you a fine bed of strings or a lovely set of woodwinds to use. Plus, it’s dirt-cheap, compared to competing products.

Image-Line Harmless – It’s a super-digital synth that thinks it’s a virtual analog. Super-deep basses and screaming leads, plus crazy textures and sounds in general are what this thing rocks at.

Image-Line Harmor – If you like Harmless, Harmor is its bigger, angrier, more athletic brother. With a schizophrenic side. And the kitchen sink. It’s one of the single most flexible synths IL have ever built.

Image-Line Toxic Biohazard – FM synth with tons of flexibility and depth. If you can think of a synth sound, chances are you can make it with this thing.

Wusik.com Wusik EVE – Deep ROMpler of keyboard sounds (synths, Rhodes, organs, etc.).

Wusik.com Wusik Station – Fantastic ROMpler/sampler with a huge library of sounds.
